OUCH! NOT good news!

http://valleywag.gawker.com/5124184/the-russian-bear-slashes-a-social-network

I hope LJ doesn't go down (I'd call it "flip of a coin" or worse possibility.. maybe 25/75... but the possibility is there! I don't like the rumors.)

I've been here for over 8 years (I was an "early adopter" - I remember when invite codes were ADDED, and I remember when they were taken back off again) and I'm trying to get LJBook to work for me to get things saved off - apparently they're super busy!

I hope LJ doesn't go down (can I say it strongly enough?)

Just in case, I've started an InsaneJournal account (http://curtisshields.livejournal.com/ is the address... "curtis" is already owned.) and if LJ DOES decide to go down, I hope to see many of you there!
fairtax
Oh boy... Friends Don't let friends join MySpace ...should I be thankful I'm on LJ, instead?

Just one more reason why we DON'T need more government, in my opinion!

sleepless
(I wrote most of this about midnight - forgot to hit the post button before I went to bed!)

To get started, I just had an "Oh, so cute" moment. Why, well, [info]beepea + [info]seventyeleventy = [info]11thandhennepin... Find out there! ([info]seventyeleventy was on the spotlight on the front page today...)

Didn't have a normal April Fool's day (it IS Sunday, after all.)

I ended up getting up at about 10am. (My sleep schedule is weird. I tend to shut down at 7-9pm, wake up at 10-11pm, shut back down about 1am, then get up between 8 and 10.) Had a relaxing time getting ready for church.

Being first counselor in the elders quorum in my branch - you learn to rely on the Lord. Or you should. I know I am. I'm also learning just how far I have to go. I've had to go to the meetiongs (again) the past 4 weeks and to conduct the quorum meetings - and that last bit (and teaching occasionally and asking for assignments) is stretching my social skills - but they need stretching, I know.

I thought somebody had finished getting the sacrament ready while I was in the PEC meeting before church - I ended up finding out as we flipped the cover over to bless the water that nobody had filled the cups. OOPS. I had SUCH a red face! Maybe that's my April Fools Joke for the day. (to have played on me, not that I played on anybody.)

Other than that, church went well.

No, for me, General Conference will be in two weeks. ( @*%$!@#*(%)^@#!$& TIME ZONES! [Not that I swear, I'm just frustrated sometimes.] ) So I don't have a favorite talk, I haven't seen it yet!

The next week after that will be our district conference - I haven't heard much news about that yet. I do know that they're going to HAVE to release our district president (he's leaving the island in 2 months - he's finally retiring from the Marines.) so we'll have a General or Area Authority there.

Quote I found a few days ago:
When there is nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire...

Also joined a community that caught my eye - and considering the way I title my journal entries, [info]one_lyric REALLY fits me.

And then [info]get_medieval had her April Fools joke! I ALMOST got caught by it.

Well, gotta plan out the next week. Lots of stuff to do.
books
If you've been on my journal for any length of time, you know I've been doing the song lyrics for titles thing way before Grey's Anatomy did ... maybe I inspired them? Naahhhh....

Yesterday, my sister went to the library and picked up the third Chanters of Tremaris book - unfortunately, my mom gets to read it next after my sister is done (although I could get in while my mom's reading it and finish before she got back to it...) But I'll get it eventually.

Right now I'm listening to KCJK-FM 105.1 from Kansas City... It plays most of what I happen to want! (I'd add some country stuff I like if I was programming it, but a combination of this and a good country station on my dial, and I wouldn't have to change to any others!)

I finally got released as the branch clerk Sunday - I'm supposed to start training my replacement tonight. That's a relief. (I've had two church callings for the last month and a half while they called my replacement.)

Got clothes to wash, insurance paperwork, stuff to type for Mom, my sister asking for song lyrics, taking a bath myself sometime in here... It's a busy day! *grin*
modem
1. Almost got my system rebuilt... Right now it's building the JDK. So I'm on the old desktop for the moment.

2. Finally!

Account type: Paid Account, expiring 2007-10-20, previously an Early Adopter

(I put in a 1-year (actually 11 month and some) automatic payment.)

3. I feel like I'm invulnerable. I also have a ravenous appetite. Neither are the best of ideas. (Both happen to be the pred talking, I know!) Earlier today I was pretty whipped and wanting to pull hair, but that's over with. It's just been a crazy day. Did all the running around I needed to do in the morning. Maybe things will be straighter tomorrow...
computer, firefox
I'm on the LiveJournal Jabber server!

To get on yourself:

  1. Download and install Pandion (or iChat for Mac OS X, or gaim for Linux/FreeBSD/etc...)

  2. Set your username to <LJ username>@livejournal.com and password to your LJ password...

  3. Start chatting!

This is LJ-integrated, of course - mutual friends in LJ are mutual friends on the Jabber server, and it'll ask you next time you log in on the web if you want to befriend somebody you befriended on the Jabber server (but you won't have to).

You'll want to read the lj_dev post about it, of course!.
conference
The problems with both Yahoo and LJ just went away! I don't know what happened, and I wish I did - Mom had been complaining about her mail since a few days after I went in, so it's been almost a month!

I didn't know I had 44 userpics now! (30 + 14) I've grabbed 4 (3 LDS and 1 Crohns one) and and am trying to figure out subjects for others. I have enough medical and LDS icons now, I think... I could use a few for my "computer", "politics" (I happen to be republican/libertarian), "books" (a few about reading?), and "vacation" (a few about travel?) entries. And yes, I just paid for another 2 months. It was too nice being able to voice-post my hospital entries.

I didn't end up getting to priesthood session - my brother didn't get back from his dentist appointment until 15 minutes before (our chapel takes 25 minutes to get to - and that's once he had changed into church clothes), and he also now has pinkeye! I HAVE to get to the Sunday morning session, however... I need to meet with my new branch president at 8am. (Yeah, I'm up early. Got lots of things to do. Want to type up the "last hospital entry", eat (or drink a nutritional drink type, I'm still deciding), get set up so I can eat or drink at church if I want, find my church bag, etc... all before 7:30 am!)

My flight schedule for my flight back to the States:

UA 9707 OKA-KIX 11:25am to 1:15pm April 16th (my tickets say 11:30, for whatever reason.)
(The flight is a codeshare - it's actually NH [All Nippon Airways] 1734)
UA 886 KIX-SFO 3:25pm to 9:03am April 16th
(yes, back in time. -17 hour change plus the date line. Gets lunch and breakfast.)
UA 789 SFO-SEA 10:15am to 12:16pm April 16th

Oh, by the way, happy birthday, [info]varrin!

And I had to start again, with just my family by my side,
I'd thank my God above, to be living here today,
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom, and they can't take that away,
No, they can't take that away...

And I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up, next to you, and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt, I love this land, God Bless the USA...

Very well done cartoon for Veterans Day / Remembrance Day / Armistice Day (the poppies are a Remembrance Day symbol, because of the In Flanders Fields poem)

Yes, I know it's already the 12th here. :) I'm staying up to make a phone call in 10 minutes - Dad's asked me to call them. The place I have to call opens at 10:30am Mountain time on Fridays - and that's if it's open "today".

I'm tagging my entries uning the "Tags from 10000 Feet" client... It's a little clumsy, but it works. I've added a few tags, and I'm working forward from my 2000 and 2001 entries...

Other than that, it's almost time for dinner, and Mom's making spaghetti and French bread. Then I've got to go down and housesit for the weekend. I've got to fix up their computer, so I'll download Semagic to use while I'm there.

Last (Wednesday? Thursday?) Just set my LJ Timezone per the announcement in http://www.livejournal.com/community/lj_dev/697741.html?style=mine (you set it right after the zip code at the Edit Info page. Mine has been set to Asia/Tokyo now [you set by location])

Last Friday: Made a blueberry crisp for my family - let's see how they like it! (They do)

Monday night: I also scheduled a family home evening for the single adult branch at my place - only one other person showed up!

Today: Finally got the insurance information sent out for most of my pharmacy bills from the past year - It looks like Mom will be able to go on my next Korea trip with me (which is in less than 2 weeks), as well as paying off my hospital bill (which still has ¥150,150 to be paid on it). We'll get the trip set up Monday, I think. Reason why not tomorrow is just below...

Tomorrow and Sunday: General Conference! Hurrah! (It's actually a rebroadcast, so people here don't have to be awake at ungodly hours, but it's still General Conference!)

Things ended up well. We had a power outage on Saturday, so that lasagna didn't end up getting cooked until Sunday and I couldn't get on the Internet until Monday morning. (cable internet place here has nobody working on the weekends, apparently.)

Since [info]invalidpasscode's birthday happened during the outage, I'll send her belated birthday wishes now.

After last year's bunch of typhoons, we must be getting lucky... we've had none hit here yet.

My oldest brother was within range of yesterday's earthquake in northern Japan - we should hear from him Thursday. His mission president would have called us by now if anything serious had happened to him, so we know he was all right. I've e-mailed him and I expect to hear from him tomorrow.

Since my brother wants on the computer, I'll make this quick and type more later!

I guess it's time to congratulate [info]raggedyana about her new arrival! Yup. Liberty Grace has finally arrived, or so I hear!

Same goes for [info]insanlyduckyful - I've just been so busy the last few days I haven't noticed until now that Zoe arrived (haven't been reading my LJ - shame on me!)

Oh. Four (now five) other things...

1) Called the GI doctor's office last week - they said they didn't have any appointments until February 26th! Well, I set one up for then and bit my tongue.

2) Heading to the library "today"... I've got some books that need returned today (the 23rd)... I'm returning more than half of my books I've checked out. (I had 23, I'll be left with 8. I've read all but 3 of the ones I'm returning. Those 3 I've decided I'm not interested in. Then I'll check out 4 to 6 more.)

3) Called the family Sunday... They're doing just fine. Mom had bunches of medical tests done, including scopes both up (an upper GI scope... don't know what they call it) and down (a colonoscopy)... things look real good! She's not going to need surgery in the next year, and hopefully for the next 3 at least. They gave her a Remicade treatment ahead of time (after only 5 weeks) so she has minimal troubles traveling... (I know I have health trouble because of the Crohns - she has it 10 times worse than I do! Long-distance travel makes her flare, too. I don't have that problem.) They did the Remicade treatment after one of the scopes, and she felt like she was flying, she was so drugged up! (they give her Benadryl and (Tylenol? Tylenol-3? I should ask her again) before the Remicade to try and dampen any allergic reaction that may happen, and they gave her the usual Versed/Demerol combination for the scope.) They did switch her drugs, however... she's now on 6-MP in pill form (you could get it as a weekly shot... squee... Remicade every 2 months is bad enough!) instead of the Flagyl and Imuran perscriptions she had. She's going to have to have the 6-MP mailed to her from the States, because USNH Okinawa doesn't have it! (she'd be the only one getting it there!) She'll get it every 3 months. (she still has a number of other things she's taking, as well! When I talk to doctors and they ask me what she's taking, I call it "the list!")

4) The book bag is FINALLY not smelling! I must have washed it like 4 times in order for it to not smell! (now it smells like laundry soap - but that's a lot better than what it DID smell like!)

(the line in the song is supposed to be "I think there at the busy inn that he was meek and mild, and awed to be the guardian of Mary's sacred child..." but LJ does not allow long titles anymore, and hasn't for a while! I used to be able to do it! At any rate, the version of this song I'm listening to is from an album called "Primarily for Christmas" and you can get it for pretty cheap! Like $3! So buy it! It's a great CD! [It IS an LDS CD, however...])

5) (added 13:32) I've received four Christmas cards so far - 3 from LJers: [info]lynsey, [info]preternatural, and [info]somabrak. Thank you! :)

Well, redeemed all my invite codes... got 2 months paid for me, and 2 months for someone on my friends list I thought needed it (I checked about 6 other people. One had a permanent account (lucky [info]ldy!) and the other 5 had already paid!)

Got my book bag back today. Somebody had picked it up last Friday and took it to the police station. (I had put it under a seat while I was walking about doing the cell-phone sales thing!) It needs a cleaning.

Applied with another temp agency (Labor-Ready) today - and it looks like they have work. I can do this for a few months! But I'd like a permanent job by Febuary or March!

Talked to Grandma today - my family is visiting an uncle and will be back Sunday night. My brother is safely off, and I'm doing all right, all things considered. Just wanted to talk to them. My sister is coming out to visit them for 2 days...

To do tonight:

  1. Clean up! (both the room and me! The room needs it more than I do, however. I can wait until tomorrow if I have to.)

  2. Clean out the book bag. It got messed up.

  3. Take my evening pills. (I'm down to 1 o.o. 10 level pain now)

  4. Set my alarm for 4:30am (as I'm out-of-house at 6:10)

  5. Go to sleep.

Tomorrow:

  1. Make lunch (I can't afford to buy it!)

  2. Head to Labor-Ready on that 6:25 bus (which is why I've got to be o-o-h by 6:10 - it's a 10 minute walk!)

  3. Work at whatever they have me do

  4. Read the rest of the day (and write to my brother!)

  5. Sleep!

Saturday

Return of the King! 1pm, Forum 8, Columbia, Missouri!

Sunday is Church, Monday I call JobFinders, and if they don't have anything, that'll be my errand day... Tuesday I'll head to Labor-Ready again, Wednesday I'll decide on Tuesday, Thursday is Christmas and I'll be SOMEWHERE doing SOMETHING! I'll be certain to post then with something!

It IS time to start with the Christmas music, so... I'll put on my favorite "pop Christmas" song to start things off...

<Thursday afternoon 2pm>I finally figured out where to put those little quotes that I see crop up on userinfo pages... so mine now has one.

Also, finally got my paycheck. I'll throw two months of paid LJ in the pot if I can...

<Saturday morning 2am> will have to tell you tomorrow...

<Saturday evening 11pm> OK. one more tomorrow.

<Sunday 7pm> I've actually had a full weekend, for a change! Friday night, I went to Saint Louis to go to the temple, and afterwards, headed to a skating party over in Warrenton. Didn't get home until 1am, but that was all right (which was why I was up at 2am)

Saturday I stayed home, but that doesn't mean that I didn't have a good day - talked to two nice ladies... first one is [info]frezzen - I'm surprised she doesn't pronounce her last name "Friend" instead of "Fren" - she's a good one! Other one was the recently mentioned "former girlfriend" - she's doing well.

Had our stake conference Sunday... lots of good things were said, as usual. Liked the talk about the difference between pleasure and joy... Wish I could have gone to the Saturday session, but I was hurting at the moment, so I didn't. After the Sunday session, actually got invited to somebody's house for lunch! Ended up very well, even though I forgot I had to prepare the home teaching lesson (part of what we were coming over for). I was my usual (quiet) self otherwise - let my companion do most of the talking.

It looks like things were winding up for a battle... and when my church had a potluck dinner Sunday afternoon, it started... I ended up getting a "throwing-up-sick" flare for the first time in 3 months by Monday morning, which put me down in bed for the whole day! Went to the doctor this morning, got the expected GI referral (hadn't been to one in 15 months!) plus a new prescription for the stuff I take... but with the possibility that that will change. Well, that means 2 of the 3 books I mentioned in the last entry are already done!

Edit: Forgot to mention that my talk went well, too! Was short, but that's usual for me!

Other than that, life's the "same old, same old"... so here's a few things I found...

"...and it sure feels good to finally feel the way I do..."

As I've said before, it's great to be back, but it wouldn't be fair without writing one more entry about Okinawa, now that I've written an entry about my Korea trip and my trip back.

Okinawa was quite nice. They call it "Japan's Hawaii" - which I think fits quite well. A little too hot for me most summers, but this last one wasn't. Living on an Air Force base is quite different, of course. I know some of you know how base life is, but I really can't describe it for the rest of you - and living overseas more so. You have to do it to know how it is. Okinawa City was the closest city to where we were at - just outside Kadena's Gate 2 - had lots of fun stuff - and it was where I had to handle most of the legalities of staying in Japan for a year. It had an immigration office for renewing my visa, and I registered at the city office to get my Alien Registration card. (Being military, the rest of the family didn't have to worry about doing either!) Mom and I would park our car at the USO (right inside Gate 2) and then walk out to the interesting places, like this covered mall about 5 blocks out that had lots of stuff...

I got to go to different places. Coco's [link in Japanese only] was my favorite restaraunt "off base" (at least until they forgot I said MILD that last day when I ordered the curry) - they're a curry place, and they serve it like 50 different ways. I usually just ordered it with a chicken cutlet - play it safe, you know! I like Crohn's flares like I'd like a hole in the head! Churaumi Aquarium - I mentioned it before - it's quite expensive, (1800 yen at 115 yen/$1 comes out to be about $15.60) but their main aquarium is second only to Sea World in San Diego for size, and they only built it last year. Is quite beautiful. Peace Memorial Park (still looking for web site) on the other end of the island was quite sobering. Okinawa was the only part of Japan that got invaded by ground troops during WW2, as far as I can tell, and it was a big battle. The park told all about it, and had memorial stones for everybody known to have died in the battle in one section, as well as history of the battle and WW2 in general - there's a reason Okinawans don't really like having the (US) military on their island! Problem is, it's a have-to, almost, because we have agreements with Japan to help defend them, as they aren't supposed to have much of a military. Plus, it's very convienent to most of the Western Pacific region (China, Taiwan, the rest of Japan, Korea, etc) And then Shuri Castle - All I had to say is WOW. Got lots of pictures for myself, but they're physical, not digital, ones. Kokusai Street is an interesting shopping street, too!

All in all, I loved visiting there. (Here's some info on money - The market rate's down to 111 ¥/$, which means that my family probably converts dollars to yen at 108 or 109. OUCH!) (and here's a PDF map)

In local news... I had a potluck dinner at church Sunday [the 21st - I've been writing this entry for a week]. Problem was, I ate something I shouldn't have, and Sunday night was miserable and painful because of it. Was flaring until Thursday due to that and some ramen I ate Tuesday - had to get a blessing before it went all away.

Sunday (the 21st) was [info]misskris' birthday... Jump in any puddles lately?

and Saturday (the 27th) was [info]sebab's. Hopefully, the music in your heart isn't dissonant!

(I remember somebody whose name I shall not mention here saying a few years back that my soap opera life should run for a zillion years and get picked up by all the major networks for a birthday wish! So take it as well meaning if you don't think it is, OK?)

Now my web page can navigate through my whole journal while staying on http://www.curtisjewell.com/ - now to make it look not-so-much like a script page beyond the scenes when you call "back journal" pages... right now they are handled as http://www.curtisjewell.com/Journal.html?skip=10 and I want them to be handled as http:/www.curtisjewell.com/Journal.10.html - just for appearances sake! But I'll do that tonight, after my last classes for the semester. I may just post the code that generates my pages later on the site!

Later: OK. Now that's done - it was all of 2 minutes to make a RewriteRule in my .htaccess and another 2 minutes to make the translation in Curtis::LiveJournalCache use it!

Well, the package was my LiveJournal T-Shirt - they sent it in a Priority Mail BOX... so it didn't fit at all! But hey, that's all right - I've already got one person asking me about the shirt. He was puzzled about the slogan on the back.

Today's been good so far - but I have a date tonight I'm anxiously awaiting... I want to take a nap, but I can't fall asleep, I'm so anxious!

I'm going to try after the video for this song is over.

If my LJ shirt is in, I don't know about it... I got to the Post Office, and I had a slip in my box saying that there was (at least one, but probably only one) package that wouldn't fit in my box... so who knows? Maybe it's a notebook from [info]thenotebooks, maybe it's a LJ t-shirt... Who knows?

My book DID get in, by the way... I'll have to return it eventually, but hey, it's free!

Two people have guessed which movie the song in my last entry came from ([info]natrlhottie and [info]sandcat) - but I figured I'd let others have fun...
default
OK - I'm going to get dressed, head to the post office to send stuff out and pick up the PO Box (I HOPE my LJ shirt is in! I can't remember when I ordered it, I just want it to be in - as well as my book), head to Bingham to cash in my meal points... then I might just get started on this report I have to write.

But anyways, my last week...

Friday and Saturday was a Young Single Adults conference, and like most of them, it was just GREAT! Went to both the dances... I only danced with one girl twice, and she is... well, I think "drop-dead pretty" describes her - she's in my ward, but I probably will NEVER be able to date her. She's also a trained dancer, has been since age 7, so she's on a different order from the rest of the girls there as far as that's concerned.

Sunday was a good day. Hectic, but good. Usual Sunday hectic, plus had a baptism.

Monday I ended up dropping German 2 - this is a bid to save my GPA because I felt WAY overloaded and I was heading for a F in that class and a C in another that I shouldn't be getting C's in (one of my CS classes)! I now have 12 credits, which is a lot easier - don't feel I have to rush so much during the day

Tuesday night I ended up going to the new senator training meeting. The Rules Committee chair and the Speaker were there, as well as the Clerk (don't mind my babbling if you aren't at Mizzou)

Wednesday was REALLY hectic.

Thursday I FINALLY got my room cleaned - it needed it - we had a health and safety inspection on Thursday evening. Had to unplug our second fridge temporarily.

Friday... well, Friday was a good day.

Plus, on Friday, I had my Statistics test... I got an A on that one, I just know it.
Had to run back to the dorm and get the homework I forgot to bring to class! This is why I don't like cleaning my room - I can't find things afterwards!

This morning - well... things haven't happened yet! We'll see.

Challenge for those who read my journal:
The song I picked for this entry was played over the credits for a movie that came out this summer. I did see it. Care to try and guess which one? I usually mention - this time I won't until someone gets it right!

I'll print the whole lyrics to help - this is a very beautiful song... Almost ethereal in texture, I'll give you that much of a hint. (which is why I'm writing the lyrics the way I do - I break the lines where the singer pauses) I'm getting the soundtrack when I can.

the dream within
the stars are crying
a tear
a sigh
escapes from heaven
and worlds end

breathe
the dream within
the mystifying
we tremble and spin
suspended within
look beyond
where hearts can sleep
dream in peace
trust love
believe
we tremble and spin
suspended without
breathe
the dream within
the voices calling
a song
a prayer
from deep inside you
to guide you
breathe
the dream within
the night is shining
i fly above the wind
salvation begins
look beyond
where hearts can sleep
dream in peace
trust love
believe
we tremble in space
suspended without....
ahhhh....

Well, dances went well tonight...

At the first dance at my church, I danced with most everyone. Danced with one girl twice. There was one other girl that I wanted to dance with again, and one I wanted to see there that wasn't. Oh well, I'll see her tomorrow.

The second dance was at my dorm's common building. It was pretty good. I had fun. Only knew 5 people there, however.

I seem to be holding my own on the "friends of" count - but since I just added 3 people who were on that list (kenwedin, sebab, jav, nice to meet you by the way.) to my own friends list because they weren't on there, I wonder who the three people were who dropped me... I mean, I haven't insulted anybody that I KNOW of (if I DIDN'T know about it, please tell me so I can apologize!)

Oh well. Such is life.

Now that I'm back, I need to wind down and go to bed... See you tomorrow. (or should I say today?)

Decided to try and Find My Way Home. Looked interesting. Took me 12 people the first time I tried it.

Here was mine:

christmas (the random pick...) -> buyhercandy -> lovebettie -> lidora -> tlielaxu -> interiority -> sisteroutsider -> rainyday (almost dead-ended here.) -> chronicinsomnia -> unyt -> randomgirl -> siouxsienova -> punkstar -> and then back to me...

Never know who you might meet up with doing this. I do have to admit it is crazy.

I'm going to have a good weekend... I have no homework, it's open to do what I want (at least Saturday is, Sunday has work and church) I got my brother his birthday present... He's getting a $10 gift card from Wal-Mart for his 14th birthday (which was yesterday) I should do a little bit of studying, I got a series of German tests starting next Wednesday. [Chapter quiz, Oral Proficiency quiz, review day, and then a mid-term from Mittwoch to Montag :-) ]

She still hasn't called, and it's been a week. I'm starting to get the idea that she doesn't want to continue the relationship. Oh, well. I'll call her on Sunday and see what happens... She may have a legitimate reason (although I doubt it very much at this point).

My mom just called an hour ago. She got a registered letter calling me for jury duty. Too bad I live 5 hours away now. She's handling the paperwork, since I don't really live down there anymore, and it'd be too horrible for my classes to be available down there in April.

Had the missionaries over for dinner at 6:30. We ordered in pizza. Hey, it's something, at least!

Well, I've caught myself a cold for sure. GREAT!

I had to be sick during the tests yesterday. I bombed the German test - I need to do better in that class if I expect to pass it. The other test (the computer class) I passed in flying colors.

I released my LiveJournal client last night (the one I'm using now...). cclj 0.04!

I'm still sick, but that's life.

Things are going well otherwise. I'm still coughing, but I've took some Tylenol, so I'm not headachey. My GF is off to her parent's for the week. She REALLY needs to de-stress (she even says this), and this will do it.

I decided to apply for a RA position (they call them "Community Assistants" here.) I figure I need some sort of social life other than my church and my girlfriend, plus it looks like an interesting job. The fact that there's free room and board kinda helps, too. I'm also getting bored with Eva J's. I don't mind working there, there's only one person who I have problems with, I like the rest of the staff, but I don't think I can handle more than one more semester of working there.

At any rate, back to the CA process. I turned in my form last Friday, and signed up for the 2 pre-interview training sessions. The first part of the pre-interview training was Wednesday afternoon right before this blew up. I don't think I did that well - I was a little preoccupied with my soap opera life, despite trying to keep it out. I'll have to interview one of the other CA's over the weekend and write a paper (and let me tell you, I HATE writing papers! It's a good thing I don't have to do any in my classes this semester!) about the interview and then get it written before the second training session next Wednesday.

And yeah, I actually READ both the school newspapers at my school, inane or not. Hey, free reading! Tuesday's had an article about the dorm GPA's - and I thought the newspapers were uninteresting enough already! I actually had an above average GPA for my dorm (why am I not surprised - I heard of at least 2 people that flunked out completely!) I also buy USA Today at least once a week... Got Tuesday's this week. I understand that they may be distributing it free to us next year. That'll be nice.

I'm actually getting to stuff I DIDN'T know in one of my CS classes... let's see, how long did it take them, a semester plus another month? Although I do have to admit - this is the "Intro to Digital Circuits" class, which isn't really related to software programming, but they figure every CS major needs to know...

I'm switching my computer over to Linux as much as I can (is there a command line Yahoo Messenger client for Linux? need to check...) so I'm going to start writing my own LJ client in Perl - I don't like the two command line ones that are currently downloadable...
