- Hearing:Nickelback - Someday
Well, I don't have too much happening. My friend is now awake... she doesn't remember too much of the last few months yet, and she's spotty farther back - she's having to relearn some things before she leaves the hospital. She barely remembers me at all, even though we've talked for 3 years. The friend who's letting me know how things are doing says "that's too bad - you really seem to be a nice guy". At least she remembers me a little! I've had a "spot fever" the last few days... other than that, my health has been good. I'm making arrangements to sing a duet in my church - plans are it'll be the 3rd weekend in March. Health permitting, of course! We're doing Steven Stewart's "The True Messiah"... it's a beautiful song! Still no progress on the job front... Such is life. Had something church-related every day this week, however. FHE Monday, institute class Tuesday, choir Wednesday, home teaching Thursday (saw one person), a fireside Friday, a temple trip Saturday, and church on Sunday, of course, including a potluck dinner this week. I've got to decide what I'm making, I've got a reputation to uphold! ( Lyrics for 'The True Messiah' )

- Feeling:weird
- Hearing:Coldplay - Clocks
This week I've just been ... I don't know how to describe it. I haven't been sleeping very well. I wish I knew why. Often, I go to bed at 9 or 10, and end up waking up at 1 or 2 and not being able to get back to bed until 6am! Then I don't feel intelligent until noon - which REALLY shortens the day and puts it out of whack! I don't want to be taking sleeping pills a lot... I'd rather not take them at all. I AM getting my music downloaded I want, however... Anybody got good suggestions for country songs I'd like? I haven't heard any new ones lately. I got ideas for a good amount of other stuff from when I was in the hospital - I watched the VH-1 countdown Saturday morning while I was in there and got a good list! This one I got last night! Talked to Mom, Dad, and my younger sister early Monday morning (like 1am my time) during one of those insomniac moments... they're doing all right. They told me they were going to see Timeline after dinner - I should ask them how it was. Tuesday, I got the hospital bill. Between the ambulance and the hospital, they expect me to pay over $8000 - heck, almost $9000! I wish I had that sort of money, but I don't. Problem is, I needed to go. It wasn't an option! And yes, I have NO insurance at all. Went for a job interview Wednesday - the interviewer was "positive but noncommittal" - but it's a job I'm not sure I'd have the physical capability to do. I'd try, however! Turned in other applications as well... I've got to be hearing back from SOMEBODY! I'm even calling about getting a paper route, I'm getting that desperate! Did I mention my brother wrote last week from the MTC? (checking) I got to brag on it for about 4 days there - I love to brag about him!

- Feeling:listless
- Hearing:Madonna - I'll Remember
Today was a S-L-O-W day... didn't do anything I was supposed to do other than call JobFinders and start the clothes washing - I didn't even get it done yet and I started it at 8am, I was that befuddled tired today. (I can tell by how horrible my typing is)
Did get PC-Pine set up on my computer, too, most of the way (I'll finish things up tomorrow).
Oh, and I got to the store - picked up more bread and some sleeping pills (I'm on my last dose from the previous pack, and I wanted some more around) - I'm gonna take one at 8:30 or so and try and get myself some sleep tonight! I haven't been getting good sleep lately.

- Feeling:moody
- Hearing:Five for Fighting - 100 Years
( Visited States Map )I've also signed up for the National Cyber Advisory System mailing lists. I called my best friend from when I was young (12-16) yesterday. He says he has some pictures on his private web site from when I visited there in 2002 and we went up to Timpanogos Cave together. He works for Verio, so has a VERY good internet connection to his house (3 static IPs in: one for his VoIP "pbx", one for his VoIP phone itself, and one for "general use" - goes through a NAT/Filter machine before going to the rest of his house network), with a 7-computer internal network running FreeBSD, Linux, and Windows. I wish I had a setup like his! (I've seen it!) Maybe I can talk him into providing me with a SSL-secured SMTP connection. I don't have one right now, I just use webmail, and it's getting frustrating that my From address is locked in. I'd like to be able to use my @mission.net and @livejournal.com addresses outgoing. [OK. Found the pictures. Non-obvious place. They were in the 2003 gallery. I'll download them and put them on photobucket (can't link direct to him, his site is on one of his 7 machines, so I'm not surprised it's passworded HTTPS), and they'll be in the next 2 entries or so!] I'm gonna head to the library in a minute, stopping off at one place I'm going to apply to on the way, and then I'll figure out interview questions, also.

- Feeling:depressed
- Hearing:Quindon Tarver - When Doves Cry (Extended Mix)
"Daddy, Daddy! Will you help me?" "If I can." "I want a map of February." (from Arthur Hailey, Airport) I have to admit, I'd settle for a map of next week right now! This last week has been stressful... Between feeling lonely (in real life, not on here) and stressed out over the job situation and being sick. Just feeling depressed about what's going on in my life. The missionaries ended up trying to cheer me up Sunday, I was crying after church... that's getting bad! Turned in 2 more applications Monday... one took an hour to do! Haven't heard back from them yet. Speaking of being sick... not again! Yup. Hit twice the first week of 2004! This is NOT the way I want my New Year to start! Monday night and Tuesday was just horrible. I'm most of the way all right now. Ended up going in to see the doctor Wednesday... got some "as needed" perscriptions, but others are going to have to wait for my appointment with my GI doctor at the end of February. Good news story I found on my friend's page a few days back, however: Libertarian Heroes of 2003And here's a quiz I took earlier:
I'm Megan!

Read more about Megan, or take the quiz yourself to find out which Carlson Septuplet you are.

No such luck on the job hunt today. Went down to one place... when I got there they said "they require manufacturing experience." I wouldn't have wasted 2 hours of my time getting down there and back and applying if the ad had SAID that! *grrr*

- Hearing:Dave Matthews Band - Ants Marching
Well... there's news. Not good, not bad. Just news. Dropped off two applications, picked up a 3rd, and I saw a 4th position in the newspaper that I have to go up there tomorrow at 9am for, so I'll be "out-and-about" tomorrow, too. Stopped by the library, too. Turned in 9 books, checked out 4. Stopped by the bank to take out some money - turns out I had been making deposits into a closed account and they didn't even notice! So I took out the money, got a new account, and put most of it back in. Hopefully, between one or more of the four positions, I have to strike gold SOMEWHERE! (or should I say, strike green dead presidents?)

- Feeling:rejuvenated
- Hearing:Brett Raymond - Away In A Manger
In my case, I had a slow Christmas. No tree, no presents so far (other than previously mentioned movie ticket!)... been chatting online a lot of the day... raggedyana and faerie_glitter have been really nice talking to me, as well as one of my other friends... They kept me from being deadly bored. If I wasn't chatting with them, I was either calling my family, eating, or sleeping. One roommate came back mid-afternoon. Lunch and dinner were brought in, however. That was nice of the people who brought them! (unfortunately, the cake the lunch person brought has nuts in it... oops. I thought I had mentioned that to them just that morning!) As for the afternoon of the 24th:
- I got my paycheck as planned... I ended up missing the 11:45 bus, so I caught the next one 80 minutes later. Got there about 1:30.
- I delivered presents to my other friend (yes, they were liked)... too many of my friends are gone until after New Years! I'll be BORED until then! (this one won't be back until the 5th). I was supposed to be at this friend's at 1... didn't get there until 1:50!
- I TRIED to cash my check... unfortunately, the bank was closed already!
- Got back on the bus... walked over to the local Walmart - no information on the Tracfone phones. Have to go to East side Super-Walmart for that!
- Walked home, got a ride halfway there from a friend.
Today I'm going to get that check cashed... (in about 1 hour). Don't know about other stuff. Dad wants me to come over there for the summer... he thinks he's found a way to get me "command-sponsored SOFA" status. I'm going to tell him I don't want to be over there for the whole summer... I'd miss my friends too much! A month should be long enough to do what needs done! He wants to get me an official diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome (which I qualify for based on my childhood medical records) and then he should be able to get me Status of Forces Agreement status as his dependent, and through that, medical coverage through him.

- Feeling:awake
- Hearing:Annie Lennox - Into The West (LotR:RotK OMPS)
Friday was frustrating... no work for me that day! Enough said! Return of the King was Saturday afternoon for me... I ended up oversleeping, plus I didn't realize the theatre was 3 miles away - I thought it was 1 1/2 to 2! I was lucky I got a ride there from halfway - it was already 12:50, and the showing I wanted to see was at 1 (I had left the house at 12:25 - see what I mean about oversleeping? I was aiming to leave at 12!) Had to walk all the way back, however, so didn't get back to the house until 6. WHY does The Butterfly Effect have to be R-rated? That movie looks SO good... but I avoid R-rated movies! I am interested in Hildalgo, however, and hope the rating is better. At any rate... here be (minimal) spoilers! ( What I liked [and didn't] )

- Feeling:content
- Hearing:Amy Grant - The Night Before Christmas
Well, redeemed all my invite codes... got 2 months paid for me, and 2 months for someone on my friends list I thought needed it (I checked about 6 other people. One had a permanent account (lucky ldy!) and the other 5 had already paid!) Got my book bag back today. Somebody had picked it up last Friday and took it to the police station. (I had put it under a seat while I was walking about doing the cell-phone sales thing!) It needs a cleaning. Applied with another temp agency (Labor-Ready) today - and it looks like they have work. I can do this for a few months! But I'd like a permanent job by Febuary or March! Talked to Grandma today - my family is visiting an uncle and will be back Sunday night. My brother is safely off, and I'm doing all right, all things considered. Just wanted to talk to them. My sister is coming out to visit them for 2 days... To do tonight:
- Clean up! (both the room and me! The room needs it more than I do, however. I can wait until tomorrow if I have to.)
- Clean out the book bag. It got messed up.
- Take my evening pills. (I'm down to 1 o.o. 10 level pain now)
-
Set my alarm for 4:30am (as I'm out-of-house at 6:10)
- Go to sleep.
Tomorrow:
- Make lunch (I can't afford to buy it!)
- Head to Labor-Ready on that 6:25 bus (which is why I've got to be o-o-h by 6:10 - it's a 10 minute walk!)
- Work at whatever they have me do
- Read the rest of the day (and write to my brother!)
- Sleep!
SaturdayReturn of the King! 1pm, Forum 8, Columbia, Missouri! Sunday is Church, Monday I call JobFinders, and if they don't have anything, that'll be my errand day... Tuesday I'll head to Labor-Ready again, Wednesday I'll decide on Tuesday, Thursday is Christmas and I'll be SOMEWHERE doing SOMETHING! I'll be certain to post then with something! It IS time to start with the Christmas music, so... I'll put on my favorite "pop Christmas" song to start things off...

- Feeling:drained
- Hearing:Meredith Ryan Packer - Sailing On (cover of Saturday's Warrior OMPS)
Oh, two things I should mention...
1) I DID get a ticket for Return of The King in the middle of all this... some friends picked it up for me on Monday, and when I mentioned that I hadn't cashed my paycheck because of all this, they just said that they'd make it my Christmas present from them. So if any of the Columbia, Missouri-area LJers want to show up, I'm going Saturday (the 20th... I picked it just in case I got a job the last 2 days this week), 1pm, at the Forum 8, if I can get there! (roommate with car is taking it to Oklahoma Thursday night for Christmas so he can be with his family!)
2) Did get some errands done today. Got that previously mentioned paycheck cashed, and got my financial information turned in for a perscription-assistance program my doctor and I are applying for for me (so I don't have to pay that $240 EVERY month!) Turning in my timecard for last week will have to be tomorrow, since the place was already closed before we could get there... (we started the errands at 4pm... see what I mean about not having much get-up-and-go?) Got one more application. Hey, I can have hope!

- Feeling:hopeful
- Hearing:Kristin Banks - Midnight Lady
Well, my week has certainly not been heavenish so far! Last week was just COLD (when I wasn't being snowed in)... but then I had another church potluck dinner on Sunday. You think that I'd have LEARNED by now that I'll eat something at those to get my Crohn's kicked up, but no! I got myself a plate, and ended up having my digestive system turn its reverse gear on for about 8 hours, during about 40 hours of very bad pain! Tuesday morning (at about 2am), I was thinking about going to the hospital if the pain didn't stop or decrease... but it finally did! (usually it doesn't last for more than 24 at that level of severity... what I call "6 out of 10") I was offline for about 36 hours because of that... I'm still having little jabs from that episode, although they aren't nearly so bad now! Didn't end up turning my card in Monday morning (kinda hard when the previously mentioned reverse gear is sending out stuff that never went IN in the first place... ( If you REALLY want to know, click here... (likely TMI) ) So when this happens, I'm M-I-S-E-R-A-B-L-E until it stops! I don't do ANYTHING!) so I won't get paid until Christmas Eve - and that's IF they're open then! Today was my first real day of even partial "up-and-at-em" since Sunday evening, and I'm still pretty wiped out! I'm waiting on calling JobFinders until tomorrow and reporting in for more work.... Was almost caught up with my friends list when Mozilla died without warning with all 20 of my tabs, too! oh, well. I have to admit, I like hugs...Get hugs of your own( T'was two weeks before Christmas... )( CHRISTMAS WARNING... click here! )( 12 days of Christmas )

- Hearing:Meat Loaf - Rock And Roll Dreams Come Through
Well, I'll be busy all this next week with work... Monday through Saturday, 11-3 and 5-8, except for the Friday evening shift, where I'm going to St. Louis instead for a Church trip. I'll be so busy... we'll, don't feel neglected until next Sunday, because that's when I'll have time for most of my friends list! It's just that I've got to work 7 hours, take a 2 hour break, get there by bus, usually (which adds one or two hours at the beginning and end), etc... It's a good busy, but I'm still too busy for the Internet. Paying jobs come first! I'm even putting a lot of my e-mail lists on groups.yahoo.com to "no email" status, so I don't have to spend the time reading them! (that and mission.net has some code that needs fixing when I do have Internet time in the evening!)

- Feeling:frustrated
- Hearing:Joshua Kadison - Jessie
Well, things aren't going so well...
I might be losing some weight anyway, the way I've been feeling lately. Who wants to eat when it hurts? Not me!
Problem is, I've got the cell phone sales job I'd like to take advantage of, or I'd rest until the pain died down! (Edit: I'm not going in this morning - I almost threw up last night, and I want to wait until the pain and cramping dies down a bit!)
Can't let Crohn's stop me, as much as it seems like it would like to!
(btw, I finally was able to pick up my new perscription - sent my roomie to get it yesterday evening. It's in my book bag now.)

Been trying to call and/or talk to my friends and family... it hasn't been easy in some cases. Want to wish them (and you guys and girls, of course) a happy Thanksgiving! In my family's case, it's already Thanksgiving, and every time I try to call, the phone's been busy. I'll try tomorrow night, I guess. One of my RL friends scared me Sunday... but details will be withheld to protect both the guilty and the innocent, because things are fine now. Applied for a job at a dry cleaner's Monday... will check back with them Friday. You don't need to click on the cut below if you don't want the details of my latest medical travails... ( Tuesday the "regular doctor's" office called... )

- Feeling:optimistic
- Hearing:Marissa Janet Winokur - Fall Reaching (again)
Well, yesterday was a nice sort of busy - ended up working on a construction job on the east side of Columbia for one day - that temp place finally started coming through for me! Feeling sore all over, however... that isn't my usual line of work. Even my hands are sore... and it's messing up my typing. My FHE group volunteered at the food bank again that night, too. MORE packing hot dogs - I don't see how I'm going to be able to eat them for a year now! (or at least until I forget - which may be longer than that!) Other than that, not too eventful. The Crohn's is under control, for the most part, and has been for a few weeks, for which I am VERY grateful!

- Feeling:enthusiastic
- Hearing:REM - Stand
OK. This week... Had a fun Family Home Evening last Monday - we were supposed to bring shoeboxes to decorate and put our keepsakes and journals in - one of these days I'll have to print this out! I was trying to get ahold of my mom this last week - one phone call, got my youngest sister instead. We talked for a few minutes before their kitty walked all over the phone and hung it up. She says she gets the weather mixed up in school, but it is otherwise going well for her. ( Why does she say that? )This map thing is really fun! (OK. Color code isn't so great. If the spot has a border, it means you are THEIR friend, as well. (i.e. on your friend-of...) Without a border means that isn't the case. (which makes the ladies locations hard to see unless they ARE on your friend of, but I digress...) As for my Halloween, I stayed home. One of my roommates got invited to a movie at a friend's house, and he asked me to come along, too, but it was one I've already seen (on a previous halloween) and was not interested in seeing again, although I did like it the first time. I'm just not really interested in horror movies. That's (one time) when I was trying to get ahold of my family. [early evenings are best because of the time-zone difference - I call during the day, I wake them up. That's only for true emergencies!] Watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off again, however. THAT is a funny movie! Picked up another job application today. Maybe more luck in the search next week! (I know... I'm going slow... but there are days when I'm just dragging! Today wasn't one of them, however!)

- Feeling:blah
- Hearing:Marissa Janet Winokur - Fall Reaching
No job news still... I'm going back to looking tomorrow - but will still call this place once a week until something comes up. No other news to report at the moment. Boring life, right now. Just watched the ROTK trailer on my computer... anxiously waiting until 17 December! Obligatory Quiz: Check out my Morality! 75% conservative, 25% liberal, and I'm surprised it isn't more... P.S. Flare finally most of the way gone as of Tuesday morning. Still some stabs, but probably completely gone Friday. Just nuisance now, nothing to worry about, I'm all right for the moment.
|
- Feeling:blah
- Hearing:Marissa Janet Winokur - Beautiful Girl
Had good news and bad news today - nothing available today. (the reason that's good news at all is that I had a pretty bad flare today, so I've slept most of the day through.) Heard a very good song today (see above) from a TV movie - lyrics are here - it's very touching. (hint - to get this song, grab promo_bottom_purple.swf out of your cache after letting abcfamily.go.com/beautifulgirl download... I like the other one, too.) p.s. my typing is flipping horrible tonight.

- Feeling:painful
- Hearing:MC Hammer - Addams Groove
Well, I have what, 5+ weeks of my life to catch up on?
Let's do a week or so per entry, and see if I can get done with a few entries before company comes for dinner (4:45)
This week so far has been pretty good. I ended up quitting my job this morning... Two reasons: My health is going down the tubes right now (my back is still trying to kill me every so often), and I'm thinking about taking 17 credits instead of 14 (one more class - I haven't decided whether it'd be Computer Science (my major), History (my minor), or Psychology (to get a general education requirement out of the way). Probably CS, if I can.
I skipped my music class today (first time I did that - my back was hurting me this morning despite the pills and I ended up falling asleep after work until the class ended) and it turns out I don't have ANY class until Monday. I guess I can listen and read ahead until then. The teacher ended up calling and telling me - we only have 10 students in the class. I guess I'll see what happens with my history class on the 9th.
Ended up going to Family Home Evening on Monday with my group finally. (Two of the people had asked me if I needed a ride down there) Had a spur of the moment lesson and ended up going to Shakey's (an ice cream place) afterwards.
Got back in contact with a friend here Monday night after FHE that I hadn't heard from since I was last here. (She had lost her internet access for a few weeks, and then I was out of town for 3 of those weeks... Real happy to hear from her.
|
- Feeling:enthralled
- Hearing:The Corrs - Breathless
Embarassed was the word yesterday morning. One of my coworkers got in a conversation with 2 of my other co-workers and me and decided to start talking about a subject that I didn't expect her to get started on... a very explicit subject. I probably turned 10 different shades of red... She ended up apologizing to me for embarassing me so bad!
My life is going well right now. Tests are going great, except in German, where they are fair-to-middling. Aren't horrible, at any rate.
|
- Feeling:disappointed
- Hearing:Rockapella - Theme - Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego
Well, they decided I don't look too good in a fishbowl - I got the letter tonight saying that they aren't offering me an interview for a CA position. Oh, well, I'll live.
Haven't heard from her since I called her Thursday. She was supposed to call me
Ended up going to work. Slept through German. Went to my other 2 classes. I'm floating a little. Just got back from an MLUG meeting tonight. Such is life.
Called the family - my dad wanted a computer problem fixed... I told them it'd be late March or April before I can go down there and fix it - it's not an obvious problem. Talked to my little sister and she said that she wants me to come home. She misses me badly. My brother wants help with his math, and mom wants to know that I'm doing all right...
|
- Feeling:sick
- Hearing:George Strait - Sing A Song About the Heartland
Don't ask me why I'm up at this ungodly hour - I just woke up on my own, the alarm's set to about 6:30.
I'm feeling somewhat better - I'm still coughing a bunch, however, so I'm going to call my work about 6:40 or so and ask if I should come in... Going into a coughing fit in a food place probably would not inspire confidence in the customers! Probably be better if I didn't come in today.
I've got a test today in my CS class I'll be studying for once I get off here. If I don't go in today, I'm heading up to the Student Health Center at a reasonable hour - this cold has hung around for what? 4-5 days now? I'll bring my book and practice exam to read while I'm waiting.
|
- Feeling:cheerful
- Hearing:Julie De Azevedo - Masterpiece
Well, I just got back from the second (and last) pre-interview CA training session. It went pretty well - I'm not sure I'll get called back in for an interview, however. I hope I do, but if I don't, I don't. I'll just have to get another job for next year... I'll know by this time next week whether I get called in for an interview.
Classes went well. The third test (one of the CS classes) isn't Friday, it's Monday, which means I've got a lot of studying to do tonight and tomorrow while getting my second program done tonight, because I still have 2 tests tomorrow.
I'll have to sub for a friend Saturday morning, as well. Oh well. I'll have to see what happens.
Got to call my mom and my younger sister tonight, as well. As soon as I finish the song I'm currently playing, I'll be calling them. Whoops. Can't do it until 8:30... They're at Church activities until then. I'll wash up first.
|
- Feeling:cold
- Hearing:Quindon Tarver - When Doves Cry (Romeo & Juliet OMPS 2)
I decided to apply for a RA position (they call them "Community Assistants" here.) I figure I need some sort of social life other than my church and my girlfriend, plus it looks like an interesting job. The fact that there's free room and board kinda helps, too. I'm also getting bored with Eva J's. I don't mind working there, there's only one person who I have problems with, I like the rest of the staff, but I don't think I can handle more than one more semester of working there.
At any rate, back to the CA process. I turned in my form last Friday, and signed up for the 2 pre-interview training sessions. The first part of the pre-interview training was Wednesday afternoon right before this blew up. I don't think I did that well - I was a little preoccupied with my soap opera life, despite trying to keep it out. I'll have to interview one of the other CA's over the weekend and write a paper (and let me tell you, I HATE writing papers! It's a good thing I don't have to do any in my classes this semester!) about the interview and then get it written before the second training session next Wednesday.
And yeah, I actually READ both the school newspapers at my school, inane or not. Hey, free reading! Tuesday's had an article about the dorm GPA's - and I thought the newspapers were uninteresting enough already! I actually had an above average GPA for my dorm (why am I not surprised - I heard of at least 2 people that flunked out completely!) I also buy USA Today at least once a week... Got Tuesday's this week. I understand that they may be distributing it free to us next year. That'll be nice.
I'm actually getting to stuff I DIDN'T know in one of my CS classes... let's see, how long did it take them, a semester plus another month? Although I do have to admit - this is the "Intro to Digital Circuits" class, which isn't really related to software programming, but they figure every CS major needs to know...
I'm switching my computer over to Linux as much as I can (is there a command line Yahoo Messenger client for Linux? need to check...) so I'm going to start writing my own LJ client in Perl - I don't like the two command line ones that are currently downloadable...
|
- Feeling:sleepy
- Hearing:Greg Simpson - Seven Wonders (God's Army OMPS)
I know, I know. It's been a while since I even posted an entry. She STILL hasn't been able to get up here yet (but not for lack of trying on both our parts)... We're both hoping for Friday.
I got a new movie last week. Yup, got God's Army. I've already seen it 3 times. Yeah, my favorite song is Seven Wonders. It just seems to fit my life. The movie is a little bit unrealistic in places - for example, the Church doesn't send 29-year-olds on missions that I know of. But it's a good movie anyway.
Since I now have a VCR, I've been able to watch a few shows on my own time... Survivor 2 and The Mole have turned out to be quite interesting (I've got the next episode of S2 programmed in for taping tonight...)
Got a new roommate also. We haven't talked too much yet, and we need to soon. (he moved in on Monday, and other than studying and sleeping, I really haven't seen him yet.)
Got my job schedule adjusted. Instead of 6:30-10:00 3 days a week, it's now 7:15-10:00 4 days a week. That way, I can sleep in a little later. That starts next week.
Well, I'd better be going to work myself, so I'll write more later.
|
- Feeling:infuriated
- Hearing:Faith Hill and Mariah Carey - Where Are You Christmas (How The Grinch Stole Christmas OMPS)
Well, I haven't done this for a while, so I figure I need to catch up on what's happened in my life. I finally got frustrated with the dance class about 5 weeks ago... I wasn't learning fast enough to keep up with the class. So I stopped going. I'm still friends with the girl from church that goes - just not as good as we used to be.
Finals went pretty well - I failed one class, the other 3 have A-'s and B-'s. (one could be a C+, I'll find out) I'll end up with a 2.27 or 2.05 GPA at best, depending on how many places they take the grades to here. Hopefully only one place (that's where I get the 2.27...)
Ended up starting to look through personals ads on the computer. (I think I mentioned this earlier.) Went down some dead ends at first, but I've found somebody hopefully. We've gone on one date - which went very well. It just was too short. She'll be coming up here tomorrow for another, I hope. (She was planning to come up today, but things didn't turn out as planned on her end, so she couldn't make it. The reason I'm irritated is that her insensitive roommate had her running around doing his stuff and then wouldn't help her by taking her up here!)
My first semester in the cafeteria has finally finished. I'm glad, although they've found something I'm good at - cooking breakfast... I've done the pancakes, french toast, and sometimes the scrambled eggs in the mornings for what must be a month and a half now... The problem was that I got so tired after working for 7 hours that it affected the one class I had the same day really bad. That's the class I failed.
And yes, I'm coming back to the cafeteria, although I'm NOT working 7 hours in one day next semester. I've learned my lesson. I'll be working Tuesday-Thursday from 6:30 to 10:00 and alternate Sundays from 7:30 to 10:30.
Ended up getting a roommate in early November - but he just moved out Monday night. He couldn't take me waking up at 5:30 in the morning to go to work when he didn't have to get up until 9. Oh well, we'll see who they assign me for next semester.
Monday night, I ended up going bowling with some of my church friends. Actually made 2 strikes the second game before my shoulder started going out on me.. Made a 65. Had lots of fun.

I never knew I'd be doing this for a job!
I just got back from my first day working at one of my university's cafeterias. I didn't believe that feeding a good portion of 20k people was such a big job.
Some minutes it feels like my brains are so scrambled they could be used instead of the eggs for breakfast, other minutes the job is relatively calm... but it is certainly different. A little bit of a come-down from $30 an hour for free-lance computer programming/diagnostic work, but hey, something has to pay for school (at least a portion of it - I don't want a humongous loan coming out of school) and freelance programming work does not come along on a regular and reliable enough basis to provide the money.
At any rate, I'll be posting two more entries soon - about a young single adult conference I went to last weekend, and about my ballroom dancing lessons that I'm taking.
