There's 4 things that need said about the last few weeks, so if this entry seems scattershot, that's why.
1. Well, my Dad found some work for the next 3 months - and hopefully we'll hear about Japan by then! Unfortunately, it's in Kennett, Missouri! In fact, it's the job Dad quit in order to go to Japan in the first place! He left last night to go there, so the last few days were busy with packing. We'll live - and now I can start looking for jobs more seriously.
2. We just got back from stake conference down in Garland - the "general adult" session was at my building last night, and I had gotten asked last Sunday to give the opening prayer for that session. A little scary for the first time having to do something like that at the stake level, but I lived. The talks were good.
3. My sister went on Trek last Thursday and Friday (for those who aren't in Utah, it's an event put on by the different stakes of the Church here that has the youth acting like
the handcart pioneers of the late 1850's and pushing handcarts for 3 days and doing other activities (square dancing, etc.)
She had a little too much fun dancing and pushing - her legs are still sore and it's 3 days later.
4. I've been working on different things in Perl - submitted a patch to the local::lib maintainers to make that module work on a Windows system at all and another patch to the DBD::mysql maintainers to make building that module much easier using Strawberry Perl so that we can include an up-to-date version of it in Strawberry, and releasing Beta 2 of STrawberry. (The goal date for "out-of-beta" is July 13th.)
I'm going to have to write an article on how to build CPAN modules under Strawberry Perl...
